THE CURE TO LYING - REACTION IS NOT A STRATEGY

Lying, who doesn't? I sometimes commit it before realizing...and Oh! isn't it shocking how creative we can get in lying. I am always left wondering how the lie is created and released from my mouth sometimes without any hard thinking. My wondering stopped when I discovered what Jesus said about lying in John 8:44;

"You are the children of your father, the Devil, and you want to follow your father's desires. From the very beginning he was a murderer and has never been on the side of truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he is only doing what is natural to him, because he is a liar and the father of all lies."(GNB)

So there is something like a father of lies? The picture in my mind is father Christmas who goes around giving gifts but the gifts in this case are...already packaged lies from someone who generates it naturally. So here is the revelation...a factory(the Devil) is continuously churning out lies for all who indicate the slightest inclination to desire it, for it shall be handed to them at no immediate cost.
Lying has a way of blurring a clear conscience(unless its dead). Lies are symptoms of a bigger problem. Lies are a cover up of something bigger. So if you want to work on stopping the lie, don't be REACTIVE be PROACTIVE. Take an example where you are so lazy and have no plan for your life and therefore need to find the latest excuse for being late to work. Don't pray to stop lying in such a case, just plan your time and have a sense of purpose and the lies will fizzle out.

The young teen who has to lie to mummy that she went for evening school but was really at the church youth group meeting just has to learn to be assertive and lies will loose value. Who was more assertive than Jesus Christ at age twelve when His parents had spent three days looking for Him and found Him in the Temple. His answer is the most assertive yet, "don't you know I have to be about my father's business?" The Bible then emphasizes that Jesus only stated a major point not out of a consistent rude character because He was very obedient to His parents afterward.

In order to win the war on lies, we need to fear God not man! When we tell lies, we choose Satan as our ally but when we choose the Truth no matter the consequence, the grace of God has a way of seeing us through with untold benefits...I've tried it!

The Word of God is TRUTH and what the truth does to lies, just as in the case of light to darkness, is to dispel it without permission. So while the lie has not come in yet, why don't we do some filling up with Truth. Remember what David said, "Thy Word have I hidden in my heart that I might not sin against Thee"
